Spirited Tales for Halloween

2pm at the Francis Hardy Gallery

There are those who believe that children should be kept away from scary stories like "Snow White" and "Hansel and Gretel." Others will argue that scary stories, when handled carefully, will help children develop healthy strategies for coping in a complex world. Drawing from their experiences in child development and children's performance, developmental psychologist Joan S. Timm and children's theater director and author Henry Timm will discuss the issues that scary stories present to children who are growing up in a culture in which frightening experiences, both actual and artificial, are only a television program away.
