The Hardy Gallery simply could not exist without the help of our wonderful docents! In 2009, 33 docents welcomed a record 12,704 visitors to the Hardy Gallery.
The Hardy Gallery's operation is made possible through a large family of specially trained volunteer docents, who welcome visitors and give insight into each exhibit presented. The Hardy's docent program departs from traditional museum programs that require rigorous, extensive training due to the seasonality and frequency of rotating exhibits. Special adult learning opportunities are provided in the training for each new exhibit by staff and local artists, arts professionals and gallery owners who contribute by leading demonstrations and discussions in their studio/gallery/facility. The program was initially launched in 2009 and had grown steadily in three short years. In 2009 we added seven new docents to our team for a total of 33 docents, and this year we will launch a new committee to oversee the work of this group specifically.
