The Community Mosaic Project

Saturday, July 24 — Sunday, August 29
Opening Reception: Friday, July 23, 5:30 – 7pm

A community outreach project as well as fundraiser, the Mosaic Project was developed as a means to help raise awareness of the arts and make them accessible for every member of our community. The display, hung in tandem with the Collection Invitational Exhibit, consists of a large-scale mosaic constructed of 300-plus 6-inch by 6-inch canvases. Each artwork is crafted by community members, youth, professional, and amateur artists of all skill levels and ages. Throughout the duration of the exhibit, the general public may purchase numbers (one for each canvas) through a lottery system. At the conclusion of the exhibit, each original work is packaged and sent off to the patron who chose the respective canvas’s number — thus increasing the impact of the project and making original artwork affordable for all.

Art Camp

Art Camp is a two-week, arts-focused component of the Gibraltar Summer Migrant Education Program that serves one of the highest at-risk groups of children in the United States. The Hardy utilizes the arts, woven into special projects, to teach core subjects rather than isolated skills out of a workbook. The program stimulates the development of young minds through creativity, strengthens problem solving and critical thinking skills and enhances the overall academic achievement and success for participating children.
