Jean Sredl

The tug of the needle, the hum of a sewing machine, and the aroma of freshly dyed linen just out of the dryer, all combine to make fiber art my passion. I create unique materials by deconstructing, dying, spinning, or repurposing. I listen to the fibers; sometimes loudly, often in a small voice. Fiber to thread, to yarn, to cloth, and back. It’s the texture of life and the practice of my art.

Exhibiting globally since 2013, Jean has earned numerous awards. Using primarily materials she creates by upcycling fibers and unusual resources; her artwork sends an evocative environmental message. As a teenager she was frequently designing and making her own clothes, and for her kids altering them for fun. Experimentation is a big part of her work. Assembling units built from scraps, she taught herself to weave & spin to produce exactly the color and textures required. Nature and abstraction heavily influence her artwork. Fabrics, fibers, felts and flourishes and her technical skill must truly be experienced in person.
