In a previous life I was a Manufacturing Engineer. Now I am on a new artistic journey. Where previously I had been using my left brain, now it’s time to exercise my right side. I controlled processes before, now, not so much. I enjoy trying to express my artistic vision using beeswax and oil pigments. I am drawn to paintings by their use of color and this is how I want to approach my art. I appreciate the luminescence and sometimes the ethereal quality when I use oil and cold wax. The painting is built in layers. Similar to the process of encaustic painting, but without the heat. Cold Wax is manipulated using various palette knives, squeegees, brayers, pottery tools, dental scrapers and rubber brushes. John likes to create textured surfaces and scape to reveal the layers underneath.
